Bournemouth Teacher nominated for National Teacher of The Year Competition
From Welly Walks to posting letters and everything in between — Mrs. Richards brings learning to life. Known for her kind heart and hands-on approach, she’s helped one little boy thrive against the odds. Now, she’s been nominated for Teacher of the Year 2025.
Mrs Richards from Bournemouth has been nominated by a student in her reception class for her kind and understanding approach to teaching. Mrs Richards who teaches at King's Park Academy was nominated by parent Ernett Audrey Sauti and her son Don.
Writing in her nomination, Ernett said: “Mrs. Richards is an outstanding teacher who creates meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for her students. From leading Welly Walks through the local woods to organising trips to the post office, she ensures that children connect classroom learning with the wider world.”
Ernett highlighted how Mrs Richard's commitment goes beyond academics and praised her for nurturing not only the intellectual growth of her pupils but also their social and emotional well-being.
“She came to visit us at home to learn more about my son. He has severe food allergies, delayed speech, and was behind developmentally. I was worried, but she reassured me, saying, ‘Bring him over and we’ll see how he goes.’ That personal attention made all the difference.” Ernett said.
Through thoughtful planning and inclusive activities, Mrs. Richards helped Don — who initially struggled socially and emotionally — find his footing.
“At the beginning, he faced some unkindness and he came home crying. My heart broke. I told the school and Mrs. Richards.”
Ernett said within weeks, everything changed.
“My son started saying his friends were kind. It was all sorted so quickly. I was so relieved.”
Mrs Richards is also known for planning thoughtful activities for the class. Recently she took the children to the local post office. After asking parents to provide their child with 85p for stamps, she helped each child post a letter.
“All the children wore high vis jackets and posted a letter to home and the school. When Don arrived home he was so happy.”
Ernett believes that Mrs Richards’ personal approach is what makes her so special: “She really gets to know every child — their quirks, their challenges, their strengths. With so many kids in the class, it’s amazing how she makes each one feel seen and special.” She said.
Mrs. Richards proves that a little personal attention goes a long way. She’s not just teaching — she’s shaping lives. And that’s what makes her a true Teacher of the Year.
